WinMerge can be used as an external differencing/merging tool or as a standalone application. In addition, WinMerge has many helpful supporting features that make comparing, synchronising, and merging as easy and useful as possible: General. WinMerge is a free software tool for data comparison and merging of text-like files. It is useful for determining what has changed between versions, and then merging changes between versions.

For a planned development of version 3.x ^[2] no commits have been made to the 3.0 codebase since 2011.^[3]

WinMerge is an Open Source visual text file differencing and merging tool for Win32 platforms. It is highly useful for determing what has changed between project versions, and then merging changes between versions. It features visual differencing and merging of text files, a flexible editor with syntax highlighting, line numbers and word-wrap and handles DOS, UNIX and MAC text.
WinMerge is a Windows-based software tool for file/folder comparisons, and for merging text files. So Mac supports git-diff tools but I'm looking for a native mac tool that supports reading conflict. WinMerge is a good mergetool for resolving conflicts in files you're merging in git, but when resolving conflicts in conflict files, it only allows changes in 'your' file, negating much of its usefulness. Unconflict helps you remove conflicts from git conflict files without losing data.

In 2011 a fork of the 2.x codebase titled 'WinMerge 2011' was created. This new branch has continued to see active feature and bug fix development. It has also removed ATL/MFC dependencies so that WinMerge can be built using the free Visual C++ Express editions.^[4]

The WinMerge command line accepts several parameters in addition to the paths to compare. Most of these parameters are intended for using WinMerge as an external compare application or starting a compare operation from a batch file.

Entering the command with no parameters or pathnames simply opens the WinMerge window. Parameters are prefixed with either a forward slash ( / ) or dash ( - ) character. Pathnames have no prefix character.

/r

Compares all files in all subfolders (recursive compare). Unique folders (occurring only on one side) are listed in the compare result as separate items. Note that including subfolders can increase compare time significantly. Without this parameter, WinMerge lists only files and subfolders at the top level of the two target folders. It does not compare the subfolders.

/e

Enables you to close WinMerge with a single Esc key press. This is useful when you use WinMerge as an external compare application: you can close WinMerge quickly, like a dialog. Without this parameter, you might have to press Esc multiple times to close all its windows.

/f

Applies a specified filter to restrict the comparison. The filter can be a filemask like *.h *.cpp, or the name of a file filter like XML/HTML Devel. Add quotation marks around a filter mask or
